watch a video lecture discussing this contract MRDF strongly condemns the Marriage Contract formulated and recently released by the Muslim Institute. It is a contract void of any legitimate basis and another pathetic attempt to reform the pristine teachings of Islam without any care given to the laws and legacy on which Muslims have had a consensus for the last 1400 years. It is incredulous for the Institute to claim that it 'emphasises the Qur'anic vision of marriage' whilst Qur'anic rules and regulations are so wantonly abandoned. Furthermore, MRDF calls for a strong resistance to the growing modernist impulse of which this contract is the latest example. Hidden behind this impulse is the conviction that Muslims need to compromise their own historic scholarship, in order for them and their creed to become more acceptable to a Western Secular Humanistic Modernity. In condemning this contract MRDF also condemns the subjugated and colonised mentality that has brought it into being.
