Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhī rājiʿūn. Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we are returning.
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Shaykh Abu Ahmad Hifzur Rahman, the Imam of Darul Ummah Jame’ Masjid in East London. [1]
Having been born and brought up in his native Bangladesh, the shaykh had in past years spent time in Abu Dhabi, before settling in the United Kingdom.
Shaykh Abu Ahmad Hifzur Rahman had held the respected position of Imam at Darul Ummah (The House of the Community) for the past seventeen years. Prior to his ill health, he held regular sermons at the centre and was a stalwart of the city’s Muslim community.
He returned to his Lord at midnight on 26 Jumāda al-Awwal 1445 / 10 December 2023. [1]
Darul Ummah
A leading figure in the East London British-Bangladeshi community who steered the noble efforts of Shadwell-based Darul Ummah, the late shaykh was a driving force behind numerous educational projects, da’wah, as well as youth and recreational activities and services offered to the community over the years.
By the grace of Allah, the multi-purpose community centre at Bigland Street, E1, has been in operation since 1997 and provides ever-expanding facilities for men, women, and children.
The vast site also houses an independent boys’ secondary school, Jamiatul Ummah, in addition to a sixth form which opened in 2008. Jamiatul Ummah School and Sixth Form was granted Outstanding status after a 2011 Ofsted inspection. [2]
