A Turkish academic has stated that the best weapon against the coronavirus is strengthening your immune system. [1]
The head of Trakya University’s community health department, Faruk Yorulmaz, said that the human body finds it difficult to fight against viruses when its immune system weakens and therefore it is pivotal to eat healthy and sleep well.
In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency he stated:
“There is no known treatment or vaccine against the virus [so far]. So, strengthening our immune system is our best weapon against coronavirus,”
He further added that “we can bolster up our immune system with healthy nutrition,” and that people could expose themselves to sunlight to get Vitamin D.
He also stressed that we should ensure to consume a minimum of two litres of water every day. The doctor also said that we should avoid eating junk food as obesity affects immunity adversely.
The doctor further emphasised the importance of exercise and said that “the human body is programmed to move, therefore physical activity would help improve the immune system,”
Whilst recommending physical activity the doctor also advised that at the same time having “uninterrupted sleep for 7-8 hours will also be beneficial,”
Whilst ensuring to seek medical advice one should also remember that undoubtedly the duʿā’ is the best weapon of the believers and thus the best weapon against any virus or disease.
Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) never fails in His promise, and should we assume otherwise our belief in Allāh certainly requires revisiting immediately. Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) has promised to give support to the believers, to replace the one who leaves a prohibited matter for Allāh’s sake with something better, to aid those who rely upon Him, and so on. One of the many promises of Allāh is:
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ
“And your Lord says, Call upon Me; I will respond to you. Indeed, those who are too arrogant for My worship will enter Hell in humiliation.”[2]
It is a matter of cause and effect, thus when the former is acted upon, then the latter is a promised outcome.
The coronavirus is also a very profound reminder to us all of our weak state subhanAllah. The virus does not differentiate between man, women or child and regardless of our social standing or our financial position, it can affect anyone.
In circumstances like this we must remind ourselves to turn back to Allāh. He (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) controls everything and he is the only one that can relieve us from our difficult circumstances. We ask Allāh to keep us firm and to allow us to return to him, to forgive us and provide us with his protection.
In addition, the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) taught us how to protect ourselves by maintaining our adhkar from the Sunnah. One such duʿā’ that he taught us was:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
“In the name of Allāh with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing”
The coronavirus is affecting 178 countries and territories around the world and 1 international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan).
There are around 244,427 registered coronavirus cases worldwide, with over ten thousand deaths. [3] Indeed to Allāh do we belong, and to Him do we return.
It is also important to note that around 87,407 people have recovered so far from the deadly virus alhamdulillah.
Italy has now overtaken China as the country with most coronavirus-related deaths, registering 3,405 dead, a rise of 427 on the day before. Around 3,245 people have died in China since the virus first arose.
However, Thursday’s figure in Italy has in fact represented a slight improvement on the day before, when Italy recorded 475 deaths – the most reported by any country in a single day since the start of the outbreak.
Although, according to the Civil Protection Agency, the total number of cases in Italy rose to 41,035 from a previous 35,713, up 14.9%, a faster rate of growth than seen over the last three days.
We ask Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) to keep us all safe, healthy and to enable us to take this opportunity to turn back to Him seeking forgiveness, and to cure our sick and protect our elderly. Āmīn.
