Dr. Muhammad Wajid Akhter is a medical doctor working in the UK. He is also the founder of a variety of multi-national projects including Charity Week for orphans and children in need, FIMA Lifesavers and the co-founder of the Islamic History Channel. A former Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, he is also a founding member of the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. Dr. Akhter lectures in Social Media and the History of Medicine at London Medical Schools. His passions include history, public speaking, building teams and travelling.
Umer is Islam21c’s Finance Editor. He holds a PG Diploma from Manchester Business School aswell as Professional Qualification from Harvard University. He is one of the founding members of the National Waqf Fund and is part of Islamic Finance Advisory, thhe Business and Economics department of the Islamic Council.
He has advised several start-ups, as well as the UK government, on alternative finance schemes and actively serves on the board of the UKIFC.
Umer's day job is as the Global Head of Risk and Shariah at Wahed, and is an active educator with the Muslim Money Experts.
Dr. Butt studied Biochemistry at Imperial College London, followed by a PhD in Chemical Biology, carrying out research into photosynthesis.
During his years at university, he became involved in Islamic society da'wah and activism, and general Muslim community projects.
