This One Quranic Habit Can Outweigh a Whole Night of Prayer — And Most Muslims Ignore It!

The melodious recitation of the Quran soothes the heart.  But is that enough?

By Editor 26 Sha 47 ◦︎ 14 Feb 26

We all know that reciting the Quran is an act of great worship.  The melodious recitation of the Quran soothes the heart.  But is that enough?

Imagine a man sets out on a long journey through burning deserts and then dense forests. He has been gifted with him the most accurate map ever created. Every evening, he opens the map, kisses it, traces the lines with admiration — but never reads a single direction. Wandering aimlessly for years on end… not realising that his destination was just a day away!

Sometimes it feels that we treat the Quran like this lost traveller… ignoring the meaning of the words we recite and not taking advantage of the message given to us by the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth.

Allah (ﷻ) has a mentioned in the Quran

“Then do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?”

Quran 47:24

This verse makes it clear that just reading the Quran without understanding its meaning is not enough.

Imagine a bystander watching us and remarking “Why repeat words you don’t understand?” or saying, “If this book is guidance, why aren’t you trying to know what it says?”

Recitation is beautiful—but understanding is transformational. And there’s never been a more accessible way to unlock that power than listening to clear English audio translations, such as at EnglishAudioQuran.com (more on this below).

Early Muslims didn’t separate devotion from thought. Consider the widely cited statement of the Companion Abū al‑Dardāʾ (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu):

“Umm al‑Dardāʾ narrates from Abū al‑Dardāʾ that he said: Contemplating for one hour is better than standing [in prayer] for a whole night.”

Contemplation isn’t the opposite of night prayer; it’s what makes every act of worship alive.  Imagine the reinvigoration of your tarāwīh prayer when you have an understanding of what is being recited that night!

The barrier to many of us is the lack of comprehension of the Arabic language.  To help us on our journey to unlock this transformational habit you can listen to this high-quality studio recording of the English translation which brings the Quran’s meaning to life in a clear and engaging way.  Listen to it on your way to work, as a family together, or in a quiet room, and immerse yourself in the incredible message from your Lord brought down by the angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) and conveyed by the final prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to mankind.

This unique production brings the depth and clarity of the Quran’s message to life, offering a powerful listening experience for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

With professional narration by a voice artist well-versed in Islamic terminology, this recording ensures that the beauty and meaning of the Quran are conveyed with precision and reverence.

You can cover the entire translation in just 15 hours!  In fact, by just listening to 30 minutes each day you will manage to cover the entire meaning in just a month!

What are you waiting for?

“(This is) a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, so that they may reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding may take heed.”

Quran 38:29
