The article highlights that this situation is due to political disunity and treacherous rulers and yet the solutions given are dua, charity, boycott and lobby your MP (solutions that we’ve tried for decades and got nowhere). Surely the solutions should address the causes identified.

We should not only scramble for achieving Taqwa in the last ten days of Ramada, rather; we must strive to keep ourselves purified or at least in the struggle for purifying our souls from the filth of this material world.

I recently found out my 14 year old daughter is homosexual. She is attracted to girls and have gone but ahead with her desire though not that far. How can I help her. As I am uncle to handle this situation and it gets very frustrating when I talk to my daughter about it. As she keeps arguing about her feeling as she cannot stop and religious talks doesn’t help. It has come to a point that she refuses to believe in islam as she feels islam doesn’t considered human feeling s and women’s are oppressed same is attracted to Christianity or she wants to be agnostic ( believing in the support natural power or the almighty but not any specific religion.

I am appalled and gutted by it. Give me the name of that charity and I will gladly give to them.

Personally, I hate those charity pitches, especially when it is coupled with asking “Who will commit to £5000?”, “Who will commit to £1000”, … They take so long and, after a long day at work, you just want to pray taraweeh and not waste 1/2 hour in fundraising.

I am also very much disappointed in how we raise funds and this is why this new tactic doesn’t surprise me. We have imitated the kuffaar in every way to raise money. We do charity dinners, we do walk, we do mountain climbs, … For example, for a walk, it says “You need to raise a minimum of £150”. Well, I would gladly do that walk with an entrance fee of £20-£50. But asking my friends and family to sponsor me? That is not me. So, in a way, the charity loses out by raising that way.

I know that my local mosque will only raise money for charities connected to them and for them and that is sad. But that is also because the funding from abroad has gone dry. Knowing that some mosques take a percentage is crushing for me as I intend my money for the cause, not for those practices that donors know nothing about. It is betrayal of the muslims.

I hope that they can find other ways to raise money, especially through social media and awareness of the charity.

There is another concern with Gaza. Personally, I give to a sister who was raised there and has found a way to send there. But, for a charity, and because of the blocade, how much of £1,000 given is actually reaching the ground? That is always a question in the back of my mind.

• What practical methods can non-Arabic speakers use during Tarāwīḥ to keep their hearts and minds engaged with the recitation?
