The problem of belief, so important to so many individuals, where it is based on interpretations of historical writings ,it can lead to misinterpretations on all sides. It is not possible to be 100 % certain about any document, especially where others overlay their own interpretations over time.

It is better to be a good human today and treat people and conduct your life well for your own sake and the benefit of others.

A child may need more guidance but as an adult you should be capable of living a true and just life, if you so choose.

Jazakumu Allah Khayran. Not only it is spiritually and beautifully written but also contains insights that psychologists, therapists and parents can be inspired by. May Allah make the author an inspiration to other scholars to write the same way – combining secular and religious knowledge in a harmonious productive way.

This article makes a mistake by considering the sexual attraction between man and man is natural and if you resist it you will be rewarded. this is a big mistake. the enjoyment of life are cited exclusively in Ali Imran verses :

‘The enjoyment of ˹worldly˺ desires—women, children, treasures of gold and silver, fine horses, cattle, and fertile land—has been made appealing to people. These are the pleasures of this worldly life, but with Allah is the finest destination.’

man-man sexual attraction is not cited in the verse and does not exist as natural desire created by Allah in males. I t is the result of mental disability to contrôle the woman desire by doing sodomy with a woman then develop to homosexuality. Each worldly desire is a mixture of instinct + mental

there is no sexual desire between man and man it is disgusting to go in the rectum. the only sexual desire that god created is attraction between woman and a man. the desire that was expressed in lut people is a desire for sex not sexual desire. the desire for sex is to put your penis anywhere just to have pleasure and not a Natural sexual desire. people of lut have the possibility to go to their women but they were like drunk…the drunkenness deviates their natural sexual desire for woman to desire for sex with males. there is no natural sexual attraction between man and man otherwise god would have permitted it since he created it in them. God never created such desire. it is like god created in you the desire to eat glucose right ? but you deviated that desire to eat white sugar that destroyed your health because you lost your mind and control (were drunk). the drunkenness reduces your mental ability and make you instead of playing sports because you are created as a human who like physical activities to throw yourself from a high building. Both is a physical activity but the first one is controlled by mind and the second one is result of drunkenness. God never created in man a natural sexual attraction to a man otherwise he would never forbid it to him. he created a love for slippiness as a compensation from tiredness but never a love for sleepiness for just sleeping because the later is a sickness. My deduction is god created in every man a sexual attraction towards woman and that is why fornication is considered as natural attraction even though it is out of marriage and illegal, then man becomes ill mentally ‘drunkenness’ and his natural attraction to woman was deviated towards man which is not natural. I strongly think that homosexuality started when man started to go in the rectum of a woman ‘sodomy’ which was the first step toward sexual misconduct that developed later to more grave misconduct called homosexuality.

Thank you for this excellent article. I am a Christian, some would say a very liberal or progressive Christian and so they would say my interpretation is not correct. I do not believe the Bible is the “word” of God. I believe that men, ancient Israel, did not truly understand who God was and is. They came from and lived in a world ruled by gods. The attributed to God the ways of gods. So when they set about on their conquests and genocides, with extreme violence and immorality against other human beings, they believed that God sanctioned or commanded such actions. God sent God’s son to show them what God was really like. I also do not believe that Jesus is God. Nor do I adhere to the trinity. Jesus that if you saw him, you saw the Father. Jesus also said that everything he was doing and saying, the Father told him to do. Jesus was obedient and display the perfect image of God the Father. So Jesus was, and is, correcting humanities view of God. I do not believe God commanded any violence. I also do not hold much of the Old Testament as literal. 1 John says that God IS love. Love does not kill and maim. Love does not torture. Love does not destroy people homes and families, or communities. The greatest commandment is to love God and love others. This is what we were created for, love. It is unfortunate that throughout history, humanity has largely lacked this love.

Jazakallah khair, Shaykh Ali Hammuda, for this important reflection. The observation you’ve shared is indeed thought-provoking—many people seem to find it easier to attend Tarawīh in congregation than the five daily prayers.

A key factor, as you’ve alluded to, is the spiritual atmosphere and community encouragement during Ramadan. However, maintaining the five daily prayers outside of Ramadan becomes much simpler when a person has a reliable, easy-to-use tool to track prayer times throughout the year.

May Allah help us all prioritize the fard over the nafl, while still benefiting from both. Barakallah feek.

It would be a crime to exercise any degree of accountability I suppose. If you brush over the Ottoman and prior Muslim empires centuries of conquest and terror I suppose it makes it easier to frame those in the Middle East as poor defenseless victims when you strip away all their agency. Dictators born in the Middle East choosing to oppress their own people after being exposed to the culture of their region surely it must all be the fault of the west. The only difference between the west and the Islamic world is that the Islamic world lost the power struggle and could no longer be the ones to oppress others so they began to oppress themselves

This is a beautifully structured and deeply needed reminder on something many of us struggle with—how to maintain presence, sincerity, and focus in our du‘ā (دعاء).

The practical guidance shared here is not only spiritually uplifting but also psychologically grounding. As someone working in child and adolescent psychiatry, I often reflect on how emotional focus and intentionality significantly impact not only our inner calm but also our cognitive clarity during acts of worship. Long du‘ā, when done with mindfulness, becomes both a spiritual and emotional regulation practice.

What I personally found most powerful is how this article reconnects us with the idea that du‘ā is not about length in isolation but about depth, sincerity, and presence of heart. This subtle shift in understanding can completely transform one’s relationship with Allah (ﷻ).

I truly appreciate this thoughtful reminder. May Allah accept the efforts behind sharing such beneficial reflections.

I am currently reflecting on these themes of attentiveness, emotional presence, and spiritual psychology in my ongoing work, especially in relation to how faith practices shape emotional well-being.

I would love to hear from you and your friends—how do you personally cultivate focus and emotional presence during long du‘ā in your daily life?

Thank you for this important and deeply timely reflection.

As a female child and adolescent psychiatrist, I often observe in clinical practice how the earliest emotional environment of a daughter quietly shapes her lifelong sense of identity, worth, and emotional safety. What is often overlooked in society is that these early experiences are not minor—they become the psychological foundation of a child’s entire developmental trajectory.

From both an Islamic and psychological perspective, the Prophetic approach to daughters is profoundly transformative. Honouring daughters was not cultural or situational—it was identity-defining, intentional, and rooted in divine wisdom. The Prophet (ﷺ) did not merely encourage kindness; he established emotional dignity as a core principle within family life.

In modern developmental psychology, we now understand through attachment theory and emotional development research that consistent validation, warmth, and respect from carers directly contribute to secure attachment and long-term resilience. It is fascinating to see how these principles align so closely with the prophetic model of parenting.

I am currently reflecting on this intersection of faith, child psychology, and parenting practices in my ongoing professional work and observations.

I would genuinely appreciate hearing how others think these principles can be more consciously integrated into everyday family life today.

As always Sheikh your writings and content continue to guide me and direct my efforts to that which is most impactful for me in this world and the hearafter
إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ

I am currently facing a situation which can be seen as both positive and negative.

I am along with my young daughter considering leaving that which appears to be good – I live in a Muslim majority land and I am planning to move back to the west to focus and work on preparing and supporting our youth to become beacons of light and action for our ummah إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ
The move also allows me to once again be close to my parents and in-laws.

This type of leaving is almost a reverse hijrah but its akhira centred focus makes this more viable in current times than to be living in a Muslim majority country?

look it up in history books I studied the history about it and of course both sides were barbaric and cruel but he is correct, look up the arab slave trade if you don’t belive me, it’s considered the longest and most barbaric in history, lasting over 1300 years, and they even used to castrate the slaves (many of them dying from infections or pain)… terrible stuff went on over that period
and if you read about both sides, not only your side you’ll find out that like any empire there was a lot of oppression towards people who were not originally from that empire

This is complete nonsense, in that case would it be glorified to free a land where the religion causes the subjugation of women ? A land where people are still sold as slaves yet today ? A land where in the past slaves were castrated in the most violent and horific way ? (arab slave trade is recognised as the longest spanning slave trade and one of the most brutal spanning over 1300 years)

Useless article, it’s really not that deep it’s a fictional film not an attempt to rewrite history, and actually no one knows how he was actually killed but remeber that hungarian Christians imprisonned him first… Also remeber that the ottomans were trying to invade and destroy Europe so it’s completely normal that they needed to defend themselves
Oh and also remember that all those regions you claim to be islamic like bulgaria and all that actually used to be christian before they were conquered by islam… and don’t forget about all the slaves that the ottomans used to take, something islamic countries still practice today – isn’t that lovely and civilised 🙂 and when you research it a little more you find that actually the sultan did request 1000 boys for his army and Vlad did not agree
