Restoring your faith in humanity this Ramadan

Preparing a suḥūr meal at home can be tough. Preparing a suḥūr meal whilst travelling can be even tougher. So, when an Ibis hotel in Dublin generously prepared suḥūr for a Muslim guest, they garnered an immense amount of praise for their efforts.

A muslim colleague asked our hotel if they could give him a snack before he began his fast. They said ok, please come down at 2.30 am. When he went, he found a FULL BUFFET BREAKFAST laid out. The hotel said it was rhe least they could do. @Accorhotels be proud of Ibis Dublin

A male guest who was fasting for Ramaḍān requested a snack for his suḥūr (pre-dawn meal) to begin the fast. The hotel staff were happy to help and asked him to come downstairs from his room at 2.30am.

When he came down alone with no other guest in sight, he was not treated to a light snack. Rather, the hotel staff had laid out a full buffet breakfast.

The Operations Manager at Ibis Dublin, Manoj Kumar, told Dublin Live:

“At ibis, we always want to go the extra mile to ensure every guest has the best experience possible, whatever their individual needs.

“Since this guest was going to be fasting from sunrise to sunset for Ramadan, we wanted to give him the best start to the day, so our awesome staff prepared a delicious breakfast buffet for him at 2:30am.

“Everyone is welcome at ibis, and we were thrilled to give this guest a very special moonlight breakfast to set him up for his day.” [1]

The man’s colleague wrote, after sharing the story on Twitter:

Yes, they do. And my point was not about Ramzan in particular, but just about kindness and service and love and understanding. I generally take a bleak view of the world and the people that inhabit it. But this simple act for someone else really uplifted me

The hotel has since received thousands of praiseworthy comments for their kindness, whilst others have mentioned more stories of hotel chains that provided them with suḥūr and ifṭār preparations.

I've always had fantastic experiences for Ramadan in Ireland. Had a restaurant owner personally deliver sehri to my hotel room a few years ago. Incredible place, can't speak highly enough of it. https://t.co/CWftMv63Qf

One user heaped further praise on to Accor Hotel’s, the parent brand of Ibis, saying a suḥūr meal is provided for each Muslim guest in their room at no extra cost:

@Accorhotels Mercure Singapore provide a pre-dawn meal menu in each room for muslim guest. Guest then select a time slot between 4am to 5am and food will be sent out to the room. They offer this service without additional charges. Thank you! pic.twitter.com/DAe0AawkMd

Even non-Muslim staff at schools have sacrificed their sleep to cater for their fasting pupils.

My 14-yr old nephew just returned from a geography field trip with his grammar school. The (not Muslim) teachers woke up at 3am to prepare food for the 10 fasting Muslim boys.

Just like we call out Islamophobia we should call out acts like this. https://t.co/2YX9gcEHh7

And to top it all off…

As the man’s colleague says, “Humanity is still alive amidst all the hatred.” [2]
