You can never silence us

A cancelled visa became the pretext to detain Sami Hamdi, a British journalist who exposed Israeli crimes

You can never silence us

After two weeks in ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detention, alhamdulillāh, British Muslim journalist Sami Hamdi has safely returned to the UK — voluntarily, it should be clearly noted. [1]

And the only claim the US administration had put forward to keep him behind bars? He “overstayed” his visa. But how did he manage this? It was nothing but a technical trick by the authorities, because they themselves arbitrarily cancelled it moments before his arrest! [2]

BACKGROUND

  • After being pointlessly held for more than two weeks, courtesy of the Trump administration and much wasted US tax dollars, Sami Hamdi is back home in the UK
  • While in America, he was undertaking a speaking tour — certainly not his first and, inshāAllah, not his last
  • He had spoken at the annual gala of the Sacramento chapter of the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR) on 25 October and was due to speak at the gala of CAIR Florida on the night of his arrest on 26 October
  • Remaining defiant throughout his detention, he only agreed to return to the UK after being guaranteed the right to apply for a new US visa

You cannot detain the truth

If they had anything real on him, they wouldn’t be releasing him.

As the Council on American–Islamic Relations said in a statement on Wednesday,

No criminal charges were ever filed against Hamdi, and the government never alleged that he posed any security threat or brought anything more than the baseless overstay claim against him. If the government had any credible evidence behind the insinuations it amplified on social media, Hamdi would not be walking free today under a voluntary departure.

CAIR-CA and co-counsel emphasised that Hamdi is not being deported or removed but is instead departing on his own terms under a voluntary arrangement that does not include a bar to future entry. This episode exposes how the government weaponised immigration law to silence dissent.” [3]

Sami was targeted for speaking out — for exposing Zionist war crimes in Gaza. Like I mentioned in my previous article, this was a desperate act of failure by the Zionist lobby to control the narrative.

Alhamdulillāh, the Ummah united in solidarity with Sami Hamdi: from lawyers and journalists to national organisations and individual content makers — working tirelessly to be the voice of Sami and push to secure his release.

Now back in the UK and with his dear family, he can continue what he’s always done best: speaking truth to power and inspiring others to do the same.

What you need to do next

Justice will always prevail and find its voice in all of us.

Continue to be the voice of Gaza, Palestine, Sudan, the Rohingya, the Uyghurs, the Kashmiris, and continue to expose the colonial and Arab-Zionist plots and plans.

Allah (subḥānahu wa ta’āla) tells us,

And say, ‘Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'” [4]
