The erudite scholar, jurist, and traditionalist, the learned Zain ad-Din Abu al-Faraj ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Abi al-Barakah Mas’ud al-Sulami al-Baghdadi al-Hanbali, also known as Al Hafidh Ibn Rajab Al Hanbali stated the following in Lataa’if Al-Ma’arif :
Some of the tabi’een (followers of the prophetic companions) based in Shaam such as Khalid ibn Ma’dan, Mak’hul, and Luqman ibn ‘Amir would revere the 15th of Sha’ban by offering supererogatory prayers during the night – it is said that they were influenced by isra’eeliyyat (Judaic traditions). Gradually, this custom spread to many areas of the Muslim empire creating misunderstandings and differences of opinion amongst the people. Some accepted it, among whom were devout worshippers from Basra, but most of the scholars of the Hijaz rejected and condemned it such as ‘Ataa’ and lbn Abi Mulaika, as well as the scholars of Madinah such as Abd Al Rahman ibn Zayd and the Maliki school of law, all agreeing to it being an innovation. The scholars of Shaam differed as to how the 15th of Sha’ban should be distinguished. The first set preferred spending the night in the mosque collectively as being recommended. Amongst those who opined thus were Khalid ibn Ma’dan, Luqman ibn ‘Amir et al, all who would adorn themselves with special apparel for the occasion and hasten to the mosque where they would remain in worship throughout the night. Is’haq bin Rahaway’h endorsed such a practice and said that celebrating this night collectively in the mosque is not to be considered an innovation. The other set of scholars regarded marking the 15th of Sha’ban by collective prayer, story-telling and supplication as being disliked. However, Al Awza’i, the Imam, jurist and scholar of Syria opined that and it is not disliked for a person to pray at home individually; this is closest to the truth.

let’s remember our death
If one thing act for a good,
but then rejected because we don’t know that our prophet did it from the history. Isn’t so poor?
There are numerous reasons:
1) the thing is never heard before, thus the logic popup fast.
2) the thing is never done before, thus the angry popup fast.
3) the thing is the person itself isn’t a arab native who understand arabic language as deep as hadist. he/she still copy & paste from the latin text.
4) the thing is the person itself isn’t a tabee’n / who knows
direct history about Prophet but speaking too much about negativeness.
OKay, now let’s calm down and remember:
Let’s see from this difference
as a first step that tomorrow is our end day.
Today is our last day,
so right now, today,
let’s make a best thing to do,
Pray, do good deeds, reduce false act, and many things that we all can do,
we try to do it,
because tomorrow is our end day.
Remember that one.
And,
To all whoever you are who said that
“Whoever innovates in our religion a new act (of worship) then his act is rejected (HR bukhairi)”
I’m inviting you to learn about arabic language,
learn about history, and also learn about the dynamic view of islam.
As a muslim, there’s a priority between
saying ” You’re FALSE ” and ” Let’s see the CLEARER side ”
Because from what we learned here,
there’s a community here which We saw as the learner-people
never so easily saying harsh words even when there’s a difference
fiqh (al-fahmu) on such matter.
And I’m still learning right now also, until izra’il (malaikatul maut) came insyallah.
Barakallahu fiikum.
To all those people who insist on Celebrating the Middle of Shabaan…cont..
You are like the Ramadan Muslim….
Come Ramadan, you suddenly decide to submit to Allaah.
You start praying….you start fasting….you go to the masjid for Taraweeh.
All well and good. BUT, come Shawwaal, you are the one who will dress up in the tightest of clothes, the latest fashion, put on the strongest perfume and the loudest music and go for Eid prayer, hanging out with the opposite gender.
After all it is Eid, right??!!
Then comes time for Dhuhr. Uh……excuse me…..what Dhuhr, what Asr….in fact………what Salah?
Oh then you say…”But my parents, my family and all I know have been doing it all their lives!”
Allaah replies to you and says:
“When it is said to them: ‘Follow what Allah has sent down,’ they reply: ‘We will follow that which we found our fathers upon,’ even though their fathers did not understand anything and they were not guided.”
(Surah al-Baqarah: 170)
And Subhaan Allaah, we are talking about something which is not even fardh?!!
Have you paid even one hundredth of this much passion and attention to your FARDH Salah??!!!
WHAT KIND OF A FARCE IS THIS?
WHY CANT YOU SEE THIS IS A TRICK OF THE SHAYTAAN?
What are we doing here…. Are we trying to please Allaah or are we trying to please ourselves???
By worshipping one night without any proof we think we have guaranteed Jannah?!!
And for all those who promote this kind of bidah and heresy, on TV, radio or otherwise, I say fear Allaah, I repeat FEAR ALLAAH.
Stop misguiding the average Muslim.
“O you who believe! Fear Allah. Let every soul look to what it has forwarded for the future, and fear Allah, for Allah is Aware of the things you do.” (Surah al-Hashr:18)
Isn’t the burden of your own sin enough that you want to carry the burden of sin of all those whom you misguide????!!!!
“How evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection.” (Surah Taha:101)
If you really want to please Allaah, follow the Sunnah!!
Follow the Saheeh ahadeeth, not some weak ones for which the Ulama have doubts.
“Say: “Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger, but if you turn away, he (Messenger Muhammad) is only responsible for the duty placed on him (i.e. to convey Allaah’s Message) and you for that placed on you. If you obey him, you shall be on the right guidance.” (Surah an-Nur:54)
Do you want to end up one of those that think that they are doing good, but on the Day of Judgment, will have NOTHING on the scale of good deeds??!!
“Say (O Muhammad ): “Shall We tell you the greatest losers in respect of (their) deeds? Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life while they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds!” (Surah al-Kahf:103-104)
And why?? Because all their efforts will be rejected by Allaah because they were not according to the Sunnah!
The Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Whoever innovates in our religion a new act (of worship) then his act is rejected” (Bukhari)
In the end:
And if after all this, you still want to argue, all I have to say is this:
“If they argue with you (O Muhammad), say: ‘I have submitted my face to Allah and so have those who follow me.’ To those who have received the Book and to the ignorant, ask: ‘Have you submitted yourselves to Allah?’
(Surah Aal-Imraan: 20)
To all those people who insist on Celebrating the Middle of Shabaan…cont..
You say that this is the night the rizq is sent down…
You say that this night your life span is written….
Where does it say that? Is that hadeeth that they quote Saheeh? NO. In fact, it is FABRICATED!!!
Have you forgotten the saheeh hadeeth when an angel will come to the mother’s womb and write your rizq and your life span for you even before you are born???
The Messenger of Allah (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘The way that each of you is created is that he is gathered in his mother’s womb for forty days as a sperm drop, and then for a similar length of time as a blood-clot, and then for a similar length of time as a lump of flesh. Then an angel is sent and he breathes the spirit into (the foetus), and is charged with four commands: to write down his provision (rizq), his life-span, his actions, and whether he will be wretched or happy…” (Bukhaari, Muslim).
And even if, for arguments sake, we assume that this night Allaah does send down rizq, you think your praying one night will send you the rizq while the rest of the year you ignore His injunctions, you disobey Him left and right?
You think of rizq this night. But you didn’t think of your ‘rizq’ the rest of the year when you lie and cheat your own brother …..you don’t think of rizq when you commit zina, when you deal with interest, when you run around all year uncovered with no hijaab, when you sell liquor or lotto at your store, when you are negligent about your Fajr or any other prayer for that matter!!
In fact where is the worry of this ‘rizq’ when you are committing all the major sins without even blinking an eye?
And you think praying one night out of the whole year will do it for you?
You think your praying this one night will get you rizq while the rest of the 364 days you disobey him?
Where is the logic in that?
What kind of Islaam is this… Subhaan Allaah!!! cont..
To all those people who insist on Celebrating the Middle of Shabaan…
To all those people who insist on Celebrating the Middle of Shabaan…
by Asma bint Shameem
Why are you so insistent on celebrating a night for which there are no saheeh reports of the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) or the Sahaba doing it?
All the hadith they quote you about praying a certain number of Rakaat or forgiveness for 80 years, going to the graveyard, etc. are either fabricated or weak!
Do you know what it means when a hadeeth is fabricated?
It means it is a LIE against the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam).
It means he (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) didn’t say it; he didn’t do it and he didnt approve of it.
The Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Whoever tells lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.” (Bukhaari)
And do you know what it means when a hadeeth is classified as weak?
It also means that it is highly doubtful that the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) did it or said it.
Why do you insist on following something that is doubtful when the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) told you clearly to stay away from it?!!
“What is permitted is clear and what is prohibited is clear, and between them are doubtful things which many people do not know about. Whoever avoids doubtful things will be on the safe side with regard to his religion and his honor, but whoever falls into doubtful things will fall into haraam things.”’(Muslim).
What is the benefit of following something that is doubtful?
Who is it that you want to listen to…the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) whose truthfulness is confirmed, or some ‘Mulla’ on the television or radio who quotes you weak or fabricated ahaadeeth…..who doesn’t know the Sunnah from bid’ah….who misguides not only himself but misguides all those whom he spreads his ignorance and bid’ah to?!!!
“… whoever calls people to misguidance will have a burden of sin like that of those who follow him, without it detracting from their burden in the slightest.” (Muslim)
They say the Quraan was sent down this night….And you believe them? who don’t even know how to read the Quraan?
Allaah says:”The month of Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’aan was sent down…” (al- Baqarah:185)
To all those people who insist on Celebrating the Middle of Shabaan…
Does Allaah (swt) come down to the first heaven ONLY on 15th of Shabaan night ?
http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/49678
This is mentioned in some haadith, but there is some scholarly difference of opinion as to the soundness of those haadith.
There is no saheeh haadith concerning the virtue of the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan.
It was narrated from Abu Moosa al-Ashari that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah looks down on the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan and forgives all his creation except a mushrik or one who harbours hatred against the Muslims.” Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 1390.
The “one who harbors hatred against the Muslims” means one who has enmity towards a Muslim brother.
In al-Zawaaid it says: Its isnaad is daeef, because Abd-Allaah ibn Laheeah is daeef (weak) and al-Waleed ibn Muslim is mudallis.
There is also some idtiraab (weakness) in the hadeeth, as stated by al-Daaraqutni in al-Ilal, 6/50, 51.
He said: This hadeeth is not proven.
It was narrated from Muaadh ibn Jabal, Aaishah, Abu Hurayrah, Abu Thalabah al-Khushani and others, but the isnaads are not free of some weakness, and some of them are very weak.
Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali said:
Concerning the virtue of the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan there are numerous haadith , concerning which the scholars differed, but most of them classed them as daeef, and Ibn Hibbaan classed some of them as saheeh.
Lataaif al-Maaazif, 261.
Allaahs descending to the first heaven does NOT ONLY happen on the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan, rather it is proven in al-Saheehayn and elsewhere that Allaah descends to the first heaven EVERY NIGHT, in the last third of the night. The night of the fifteenth of Shabaan is included in this general meaning.
Hence, when Abd-Allaah ibn al-Mubaarak was asked about the descent of Allaah on the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan, he said to the one who asked him: “O weak one! The night of the fifteenth?! He descends every night!”
Narrated by Abu Uthmaan al-Saabooni in Itiqaad Ahl al-Sunnah, no. 92.
Al-Aqeeli (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
With regard to Allaahs descending on the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan there are haadith which are weak, but the reports that He descends every night are proven and saheeh, so the night of the fifteenth of Shabaan is included in that, inshaAllaah.

Shaykh Albani r.a. classifies the 15th of Sha’ban hadith as Saheeh!
To my dear Salafi brothers, even respected Shaykh Albani r.a. classifies the importance of the night of 15th Sha’ban ‘authentic’:
Hadith:
Sayyidina Mu’adh ibn Jabal reports that RasulAllah has said: “Allah Almighty looks upon all those created by Him in the middle Night of Sha’ban and forgives all those created by Him, except the one who associates partners with Him or the one who has malice in his heart (against a Muslim)”. (Saheeh Ibn-e-Habban, vol 7, p470)
This narration has been confirmed as being to the class of Saheeh by many great Muhadditheen. This narration has also been regarded as being Saheeh by Shaykh Nasirudeen Al Albani r.a.
Sheykh Albani r.a. writes: ‘This Hadith is authentic (Saheeh). A Jama’at of the Sahabah have narrated this through differing chains, from these, certain narrations support and give strength to the others. Those Companions,
the likes of: Abu Bakr Siddique, Mu’adth ibn Jabal, Abu Salaba, Al Khashni, Abdullah bin Amr, Abu Musa Ash’ari, Abu Hurairah, Awf bin Malik and Sayyida Aishah Siddiqa have narrated this Hadith. (Silsilatul Ahadithus-Sahiha,
vol 3, p135)
Also, there are narrations from 17 different companions of the Rasulullah s.a.w. mentioning the important of this night.

Allama Ibnu-Taymiyyah accepts the virtue of the night of Baraat, he says,
“So many Ahaadith and reports exist regarding the excellence of the fifteenth night of Shabaan that one is compelled to accept that this night possesses some virtue”.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarrakatuhu
WAllah it’s the foolishness of people that they give preference to the acts of bid’ah against sunnah and obligations. Why majority of muslims have eyes to see only the forged and extremely week ahadith, why can’t they see authentic ahadith and hadith which enjoins obligation on them. Majority of muslims are committing acts of bid’ah(innovation) and it’s evident and an open truth that majority of muslims are care less about faraiz(obligatory prayers and other obligations)
any person with sound reasoning can understand that Salaf(ahle-hadeeth) calls towards the abandoning of all those acts which nullifies once Islam and to hold to the rope of Allah(which is only Qur’an and Sahih-ahadith).I have no intentions to criticize any sect or any group of people but it is evident that there is still a jama’ah that holds to the true teachings of Islam. May Allah bless us with scholars like Shaikh Al-Albani rahimahullah and ibn-baaz rahimahullah.
Muslims should use their intellect to find out the truth and not just follow what they found their parents and localites follow to them. They should thank Allah that they are born in a muslim family but yet in the midst of diverse ideas and sects amongst the Muslim community. Allah has blessed everyone of us with reasoning so why shouldn’t we try to seek knowledge and accept the truth with being prejudiced.
However, to those, who call Ahle-Hadees as ghair muqallid; I thank them whole-heartedly because I have checked the meaning of Muqallid and surely Allah subhanahu has not reduced us to such an extent of degrade and helpless.

I am not a learned person but all I can say about nisfi shabaan is that stop fighting. look at the bigger picture it brings people together in the mosques people attone for there sins people make peace and forgive each other yet you who are the ulema are fighting over this is religeon or tradition. Step back in this evil world where islam is so misrepresented look at us ordinary folk we in the mosques we are making dua. Allah did not forbid us from making dua anytime. ishallah may allah grant us hidaayat
As far as i know there is a hadith reported by Aisha RA that the Prophet SAW used to stay up this night to pray. As far as I know no one has called this hadith as false.
Asalaamu ‘Alaikum
Some of the Brothers have actually answered the question themselves using sources ‘acclaimed’ by the so-called ‘Salafis’. Has anyone ever pndered upon the fact that to use the ord ‘Salafi’ is in fact a Bid’ah in itself? Did the Prophet ‘Alaihi Salaatu wa Salaam ever use that term? He stated that the best three generations were His (SAAWAS), then the following generation, then the generation that followed that, but as far as I am aware and remember here I am no scholar (and neither I think are the larege proportion of those contributing to this discussion, for that matter). The sources qouted by one of the brothers above are in fact using evidences praised by the ‘Salafis’ themselves. I will take the liberty of posting a fairly short clip from youtube refuting and debating the Salafi viewpoint as I feel is is relevant in this current discussion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj6UP9QS9yA&feature=channel_video_title
Bidh`ah or bidh`ah hassanah?
The differences of opinion are caused by some claiming there not to be any such thing as bidh`ah hassanah based on assuming that anyone who decides to regulate their worship by scheduling it per month or per year, always falsely intends or professes it to be a Sunnah when it’s not. It might just be that does not expect any extra reward for it other than what is already quantitatively rewarded for doing within his or her own capability.
15th of Sha’baan
Certain countries in the sub-continent strongly believe in singling out the 15th of Sha’baan to other nights which was not the practice of our beloved prophet Muhammad peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him. Our beloved prophet did fast the most during the month of Sha’baan compared to other months except Ramadan as per authentic hadiths, but singling out just one night of Sha’baan might fall under bida’h (innovation)according to most scholars which is not allowed in Islam as bida’h leads to hellfire according to our beloved prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him). And Allah knows best! We should ask Allah Subhanawat’ala to forgive our shortcomings and sins and give us a chance to benefit from the blessed month of Ramadan Ameen! May Allah Subhanawat’ala guides us all Ameen!
Laylat al-Nusf min Sha’baan (the middle of Sha’baan) should not be singled out for worship
Praise be to Allaah.
There is no saheeh marfoo’ report that speaks of the virtue of the middle of Sha’baan that may be followed, not even in the chapters on al-Fadaa’il (chapters on virtues in books of hadeeth etc.). Some maqtoo’ reports (reports whose isnaads do not go back further than the Taabi’een) have been narrated from some of the Taabi’een, and there are some ahaadeeth, the best of which are mawdoo’ (fabricated) or da’eef jiddan (very weak). These reports became very well known in some countries which were overwhelmed by ignorance; these reports suggest that people’s lifespans are written on that day or that it is decided on that day who is to die in the coming year. On this basis, it is not prescribed to spend this night in prayer or to fast on this day, or to single it out for certain acts of worship. One should not be deceived by the large numbers of ignorant people who do these things. And Allaah knows best.
Shaykh Ibn Jibreen.
If a person wants to pray qiyaam on this night as he does on other nights – without doing anything extra or singling this night out for anything – then that is OK. The same applies if he fasts the day of the fifteenth of Sha’baan because it happens to be one of the ayyaam al-beed, along with the fourteenth and thirteenth of the month, or because it happens to be a Monday or Thursday. If the fifteenth (of Sha’baan) coincides with a Monday or Thursday, there is nothing wrong with that (fasting on that day), so long as he is not seeking extra reward that has not been proven (in the saheeh texts). And Allaah knows best.

why not
I completely agree with muslims. It is our duty to worship as much as we can. So what if one was to stay up all night in prayer. Why not? If ones intention is to ge extra sawab.so y not? We pray our namazs but if you was to pray loadsa nafls does dat make us wrong for doing so? One should understand that we should strive to do as much prayers as possible and one that says no should think who are theyre prayers for? And who is rewarding those prayers. Let it be said pray in this month as much as possible and never preach to others that prayers during any night is allowed or not allowed. Muslim brothers and sisters those that say dnt pray ignore them they are sided with shaytan open your eyes and think however much prayers you can offer after ur farz then do it. Even it meant reading Quran surah Yaseen or whatever
A very basic article with so little reference for a blessed month
Assalamu alykum, Subhanallah…its obvious that Sha’ban and the 15th night
has been exploited by many groups and spoiled the virtue of the month, as for if we look at the bigger picture there is much to be gained:
1) Abu Musa Ashari, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said: “Allah Almighty looks upon all those created by Him in the middle Night of Sha’ban and forgives all those created by Him, except the one who associates partners with Him or the one who has malice in his heart” Ibn Maja (Al-Albani declares this as hasan in narration (good)
Shaykh Ibn Taymiyya considered the night of mid-Sha`ban “a night of superior merit” in his Iqtida’ al-sirat al-mustaqim:
[Some] said: There is no difference between this night (mid-Sha`ban) and other nights of the year. However, the opinion of many of the people of learning, and that of the majority of our companions (i.e. the Hanbali school) and other than them is that it is a night of superior merit, and this is what is indicated by the words of Ahmad (ibn Hanbal), in view of the many ahadith which are transmitted concerning it, and in view of what confirms this from the words and deeds transmitted from the early generations.
Ibn Hibban narrated from Mu`adh ibn Jabal in his Sahih the following narration which the hadith scholar and editor of the Sahih Shu`ayb Arna’ut confirmed as sound:
The Prophet said : yattali`u Allahu ila khalqihi fi laylati al-nisfi min sha`bana fa-yaghfiru li-jami`i khalqihi illa li mushrikin aw mushahin.
Allah looks at His creation in the night of mid-Sha`ban and He forgives all His creation except for a mushrik (idolater) or a mushahin (one bent on hatred)
————-
So brothers/sisters lets look at the Hadith and the authentic narrations mentioned and not to just ‘Blind follow’ websites that just clip the reality and make unneccessary fasad
Nisfu-S’aaban.
In this part of region muslims would read Surat Yaasiin three time after mahgrib prayer dan a doa in between. I dont really know if our this was beeing practised by Rasululah and his sahabah or the taabieen. – Kelantan, Malaysia.
on 15th Sha’ban
Assalamo alaikom WBR
As I was reading the discussions on the solemn activities during the 15th of Sha’ban, I prayed to Allah (swt) to give me and the Muslims as a whole, the strengths and energies to offer much prayers and ask forgiveness from HIM not only on this day but towards the our last breath.
As the Holy Qur’an said in Surah Al-Imran…102-O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared. (Obey Him, be thankful to Him and remember Him always,) and die not except in a state of Islam.
Wassalam
In another Tradition Sayyidah’ Aishah, Radi-Allahu anha, has reported that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said, “Allah Almighty descends (in a manner He best knows it) in the night occurring in the middle of Sha’ban and forgives a large number of people more than the number of the fibers on the sheep of the tribe, Kalb.”
Ibn Taymiya’s view on 15th Sha’ban
As far as I understand from Ibn Taymiya, and do correct me if I am wrong, many of the scholars, especially the Hanbalis, considered 15th of Sha’ban to be a special night, and this is also mansus from Imam Ahmad. In his al-Fatawa al-Kubra, he even stated that it is good for a person to pray that night whether alone or even in a private gathering (jama’ah). What he objected to was people gathering in mosques for the purpose of praying a particular prayer in congregation with fixed numbers of units, etc, as that resembles the Sharia (fixed five daily prayers, two eids, etc).
…However, Al Awza’i, the Imam, jurist and scholar of Syria opined that and it is not disliked for a person to pray at home individually; this is closest to the truth…

Furthermore, Ibn Rajab’s final comment regarding Imam Al Awza’i’s view (as being ‘closest to the truth’) seems somewhat dubious given that he establishes that it has no prophetic source.
This is in fact Ibn Taymiya’s opinion, too. Ibn Taymiya argues that there exist many marfu’ narrations as well as athar which dictate that this is a special night.
Allahu Alam
Muslim
What good does it do for the individual for us to ponder on the practice of Rajab? I as a young Muslim am find that with just knowing that during the month of Ramadan and any other month we as a community should be in a continous race to worship Allah and do good deeds. For me any conversation that interupts that mind set is what the scholors need to question. If we can stay a day and night in the mosque as a group worshiping Allah great, why not open up the mosque for this type of prayer when possable to do so.
