Yesterday, CAGE International launched a landmark legal application on behalf of pro-Palestine, anti-genocide advocates. [1]
It includes 24 anonymised accounts from various sectors of British society, who have been seriously impacted by “the weaponisation of section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 against pro-Palestine advocacy”. [1]
Over the past two decades, hundreds of students, parents, and leaders have been targeted by unjust and Islamophobic laws.
In this podcast episode, CAGE’s Research Director, Dr. Asim Qureshi, joined us to explain exactly what this landmark legal application is, and how it affects you.
More on the application
Muhammad Rabbani, the Managing Director of CAGE International, said,
The chilling effect on political speech in support of Palestine is stark.
The systematic suppression of pro-Palestinian speech threatens not only those targeted, but also the principles of open debate and political freedom upon which a free society must be based.
This case is about restoring a fundamental right and protection for our clients and communities — the right to speak freely, without fear of criminalisation.” [1]
