About Editor

1. Feedback on Riddle Competition
Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Masha Allah, what a unique and beneficial Islamic online competition I’ve ever participated in! Jazak Allahu khayran to the brainchild behind it and all those who contributed to the website through their articles and immense knowledge.
Congratulations to Um Raeesah and all who actually took the time to search for the answers as I believe everyone is a winner since the information and knowledge we all gained from the ‘hunt’ are invaluable, insha Allah.
Alhamdulillah I had a go because this is the first time I was introduced to this website in Ramadan and found Sheikh Haitham Al-Haddad a very inspirational speaker and writer. Also it was a challenge to my daughter to motivate her to read Islamic articles of substance to see who can find the answer first and I’m sure it had benefited her immensely.
I got 2 wrong in no 7 and 12. I had actually got the answer ‘rugged individualism’ when I watched the 3rd part of the video but when I continued with the last part I found another answer which I thought more suitable as it was direct reference to how the president of America considered attack/occupation as ‘pre-emptive’ defence. Qadrullah I chose that answer.
What threw me off the track in no 12 was the ‘Greek’ connection. I couldn’t find anything to do with Greece except that the author Hamza Andreas Tzortzis is Greek, so I looked in all his articles including one on liberalism and went for the ‘Sarkozy’s values & the honour of women’ where the president/premier’s outrageous statement about women in niqab led to the burka ban in France. The answer that seemed to fit the last part of the riddle (In what way does he seek to overcome, Described by which the tongue is one) so I thought, was the key word ‘qawwamoona’ which comes from several words with similar meanings. The noble Qur’an highlights the immense responsibility men have towards women. The Qur’an says “Men are qawwamoona over women“. Would really appreciate an explanation of ‘Greek’ in the riddle, thanks.
Alhamdulillah, I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the riddler, look forward to the next one insha Allah. Barakallahu feekum.

2. Assalaamu Alaikum,
Okay, here are the steps to riddles 7. 10 and 12.
Riddle 7 was the hardest for me.

Watch the four who are keen of mind [“watch” refers to the Video/Multimedia section. The show has 4 brothers on it]
The solution they say is of the struggling kind [Show discussing the article Jihad: The Solution?]
Their words are into quarters split [The show has 4 parts]
In one of them the answer sits [part 3]
Reminded of Washington’s occupational line [washington= where the White House is. The brother quote’s a former president’s words]
How did he describe self-focus that time? [rugged individualism ]

Riddle 10
Remember the first of the causes made [badr was the 1st cause/jihad. This is in Prophetic Timeline – 623CE]
Being a third of one that the good were bade [Under the section Edicts and Rulings, it states that jihad, fasting and the qiblah direction were established in this year]
In the love of one to discharge their sin
To counter Azar’s ideological kin [the mushrikeen]
In the lessons of what we can take from this [now we read the “lessons learnt” section]
Who are the dark which it helped distinguish [”a means of distinguishing the believers from the hypocrites”]

Riddle 12

Clue 12:
Read in derived from city in Greek [polis is city in Greek, meaning many. So we go to the Politics section]
The council’s qadhi’s strong critique [Shaikh Haytham, Islamic Shariah Council Judge]
Counter to the premier’s senseless view [The Premier here is David Cameron]
Decried by most save but a few
In what way does he seek to overcome
Described by which the tongue is one [If this is what you want to confront, and this is how you want to browbeat Muslims with ‘muscular liberalism’ then do]

3. Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullah,

Masha Allah this riddle competition was absolutely awesome and I hope that there are many more to come in the future;D . Alhamdulillah I got 11 of them correct but was there a mistake or something with riddle 12 because I really don’t see how Greece is associated with anything :/ so well done Umm Raeesah can you just explain riddle 12 insha Allah that would be really good 🙂

4. Jazakallah Khair
Assalaamu alaikum dear team members,

Congrats to the winner. May Allah increase you and all others who participated in knowledge.

Jazakallah Khair for the opportunity. It was a good platform for learning in a joyful way. And thanks for the answers with links to articles. That made me realize were I went wrong. Will be eagerly waiting for the next competition.

5. Congratulations

Congratulations sister Umm Raeesah for winning, Mashallah. I managed to get all the answers correct also but it Allah’s qadr that you won.

I hope that the riddler is back again soon – it was a really well designed challenge unique to the internet. The majority of riddles were fairly reasonable in difficulty I felt. Riddles 7 and 12 involved a bit more thinking I thought, but I enjoyed the challenge and hope that a similar standard of difficulty is maintained in future.

Jazakallah khair to the organisers.

6. eka yuliyanti

Assalamualaikum wabarokatuh
Its so exciting and its hard to me cause i never join to riddle an in english too. But im so sorry cause i already give up. But i hope next time there will be another riddle and i hope i can join again. And i want to join to be a writer voluntarily. This is very good web and i promote to my friend in Uk, Us, and in here indonesia.

Jazakumullah 🙂

7. Wow!
Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,
Masha’Allah, I am so elated that I won. Some of the riddles were so difficult, I felt sure I had the wrong answer, but decided to give it a go anyway.

I really benefitted from the ilm. I didn’t tell anyone I had entered the competition, yet my son had a dream that we won an Ipad, just the night before the final riddle was announced. I took it as a good sign and submitted my answers.

May Allah increase all of the Islam21c team in good and reward all who took part. Ameen

Masha’Allah although the prize is a great one, the duas made on here for the winner are even more valuable.

If anyone wants me to post how I figured out the answers, I will do so insha’Allah.

Umm Raeesah.

8. Looking forward for another challenge!!
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah,

Congrats to the winner!

I appreciate this idea of the riddler. It was really fun attempting the riddles and gaining knowledge simultaneously. I liked the Prophetictimeline website.

But just one suggestion I would like to make that – Please keep the language of the articles as well as riddles a little simpler.

May Allah reward you for your efforts and help you in doing more and better work.

Jazakumullahu khaiaran

9. Assalaamu ‘alaikum,

MashAllaah and Congratulations to the winner!

It was a really excellent competition and a really good way to spread Islaamic knowledge…

I love the prophetic timeline website and I can’t wait to see it more developed and see more websites like it!

Wassalaamu ‘alaikum.

10. Clarity

Congratulations to the winner and those that got ’em all correct.

I would love an explanation of the last riddle, as i’m somewhat confused about how the first line (greek) referes to the politics section?

I understood it to mean Greek philosophy – and so went into that section, (theology and philosophy) found Ibn taymiyyahs poem to be most suited – as it was a refutation of what was being spread and supported by a king (premier) get it? lol

So yes, either by the poet or whoever got it right, an explanation would be quite handy. (a similar breakdown for number 10 would be handy too) inshaAllah

jazakum Allahu khairan.

11. Well done!
Assalamu alaikum!

Being last years iphone winner, masAllah must say well done Umm Raeesah! May Allah make it beneficial for you in the dunya and akhirah. Ameen.

I have to say the riddles were quite tough, harder than last time! I got all bar riddle 7 correct (and my answer for the last riddle was ‘muscular liberalism’ as opposed to ‘liberalism’). Good challenge by Islam21c masAllah and I also absolutely love the prophetic timeline website and idea. Being a past school teacher, I think it’s an excellent resource for educators and cant wait to see it developed further!

May Allah reward all the team and participants. Ameen.

12. Assalaamualaikum wa rahemtullah wa barkatahu
ASAK dear brothers and sisters,

I think this is a great way to imbibe the teachings of islam and make people actually understand them as well. Many a times we just read it but dont really understand them, but such kind of riddle does help in getting the real answers to the text or videos that we see. ISLAM has to spread and it will spread insha Allah and may Allah give us the strength and power to serve in our way to give humanity its true religion. Ameen.

13. Congratulations
Congratulations to the winner, Masha Allah!

Interesting challenge by islam21c. The riddler is good!

14. as salamu walekum wa rehmatullahi wa barkatahu
MASHA ALLAH wat a beautiful journey it was of the whole contest indee with a knowledgeable journey to ….hope to see many more contest like this …
a very very beautiful website of prophet timeline:):):):)

15. Jazakallahu Khairan
Assalamu Alaykum,

Firstly, Congratulations Umm Raeesah!!

Secondly, I Thank the islam21c team for giving us such an opportunity to swim in the ocean of Knowldge through the riddles… I thoroughly enjoyed solving them..the enjoyment you get after finding the answer is
May Allah reward and bless you for all your efforts..

Can’t wait for another one of this kind..!

Jazakallahu Khairan

Wassalamu Alaykum

16. Mohammad Farhan

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullah..

Finally, the answers are out and I got 9/12 Alhamdulillah! But that is not good enough to get the big prize 🙂

I got number 7, 10 and 12 wrong.

For number 7, I answered PRE-EMPTIVE. (watched the right video dozens of time and this is the closest answer i can come up with.. and not confident)
For number 10, I answered FALSEHOOD. (wrong timeframe referred)
For number 12, I answered CONSENSUS. (wrong section referred)

I think what is most valuable here is the experience, never did I struggled so hard to read an article or watched a forum so meticulously that I do it dozens of time over and over again. Then I reminded myself that all of my effort will go to waste if I have the wrong niyyah. iPad2 is worldly, but seeking knowledge to please Allah is for eternity.

Jazakallah to the team. I will surely try again next year InshaAllah.

And CONGRATULATIONS to Ummu Raeesah. May Allah bless you with lots of happiness..

Your brother,
Mohammad Farhan.

17. Mohammad Farhan

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah,

Alhamdulillah, I got 9 out of 12 answers correct. It was REALLY tough !
Those riddles which I got wrong were number 7, 10 and 12. Up to the point when the deadline is coming near, I am still unsure of my answers for these ones.

For number 7, I watched all 4 parts of the video many times but I still can’t get the answer, so I follow my guts and answer PRE-EMPTIVE. (Because I deduce Washington’s occupational line as President, and the sheikh was talking about presidents when he mentioned PRE-EMPTIVE DEFENSE)

For number 10, I answered FALSEHOOD. I referred to the wrong timeframe, because I thought the three causes referred to Migration of Muslims.

For number 12, I answered CONSENSUS. Because I referred to the wrong article. Instead of going to politics section, I went to Theology section (thinking that THEO sounds Greek) and picked the Darwin article. (and thought the premier was Darwin).

This is a great experience for me, I will definitely try again next time InshaAllah!

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS to Ummu Raeesah for winning the competition..

Your brother,
Mohammad Farhan.

18. Assalalaikum
This was really great mashallah and I think pretty helpful in learning to use the resources on
Islam21c and Prophetictimeline.
Just have one question?
when you say 10 am GMT it should probably be 11.00 BST right?
Kindly clarify?

19. Mohamed Moshaya

Great competition – We want another one!
Salam alaikum,

As with last year’s competition, I enjoyed solving the riddles. Although I found them more difficult this year, one still gets a sense of achievement when the answers have been found.

I commend this website for introducing such competitions with highly desirable prizes. Thanks for providing a great service to the community by maintaining two good and informative websites.

All the best

20. Riddles
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,
Well it was really a fun to solve these riddles as it was my first chance. Your purpose behind these riddles was great to convey Islamic knowledge through interesting method. I have enjoyed to solve all 12 riddles and sent to you soon after 12th riddle was released.
Insha Allah, I’ll work as Marketing Manager voluntarily and have applied for it through an email. May Allah Bless you and all Muslims to serve Islam as United Ummah. Aameen.

21. Mohammad Farhan

Great challenge!
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullah,

This is my first time joining the Islam21c Treasure Hunt challenge and I have to be honest, one of the most exciting online trivia I have ever joined in.

In finding the answers, not only that I learn how to ‘read between the lines’, but I also learn to familiarise myself with the Islam 21c and Prophetic Timeline.

What I also find most interesting the poetry style of each riddle, works of a genius, very beautifully written indeed!

I hope this competition will continue in the future. I will definitely promote it to my family and friends, not because of the attractive prizes, but most importantly to get them to know these two very useful websites and InshaAllah, will brings us closer towards the correct understanding of our Deen.

Jazakallahu khair! ^^
