We’ve always done “news” on Islam21c, but we found increasingly worrying trends develop over the years in the so-called “mainstream” news coverage, especially with the impact of social media and the political earthquakes we’ve witnessed around the world.
Alhamdulillah we were able to expand our editorial team to introduce a news department, and NewsViews was born.
It’s crucially important for Muslims in the 21st century to have truly independent news sources and outlets, driven not by advertising revenues or persuasion architecture to grab people’s short-term attention, but by the divine imperative towards Truth, with our readers’ and society’s long-term benefits and interests at heart.
We have discovered that there is a lot that goes into making news; what you choose to report and why, what broader narratives and stereotypes you are ossifying or dispelling, the list goes on.
There’s so much power there, and it’s about time we took that power back from those who would happily sell society’s long term interests and benefits for a few ad clicks and newspaper sales.
