Condolences on the passing of Shaykh al-Dedew’s mother

By News Editor 7 Shw 42 ◦︎ 19 May 21

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Indeed, to Allāh we belong, and to Him we will return.

The Islam21c team would like to extend their sincerest condolences to Shaykh Muhammad al-Hassan al-Dedew (and his family) whose mother has passed away to meet her Lord (subḥānahu wa taʿālā). May Allāh have mercy upon her.

This is surely a difficult time for the family and their loved ones. Losing a parent is to lose a teacher, a supporter, a friend and a person’s connection to the past.

Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) declares:

“Wherever you are, death will overtake you, even if you are in lofty towers.” [1]

“Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.”[2]

Death is a certainty of life. Indeed, life itself is a test; man shall die and be questioned. It is in this sense that Allāh informs humans by way of counsel and encouragement that it is only the believers who are successful, avoid the Fire, and secure admittance into Paradise. When a believer dies, it is a time of great tragedy and loss for the community, but those who submit to the will of Allāh pay heed to what has been revealed:

“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient; those who when afflicted with calamity say: from Allāh do we come, and to Him we shall return.” [3]

Shaykh Dr. Haitham al-Haddad on receipt of the news said:

“May Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) grant the mother of Shaykh Muhammad al-Hassan al-Dedew immense mercy and Rahmah. Condolences to her entire family and the Ummah at large.”

Who is Shaykh Muhammad al-Hassan al-Dedew?

His eminence Shaykh Muhammad al-Hassan al-Dedew (also spelt al-Dido) is a senior jurist and thinker among the scholars of Mauritanian, who are known worldwide for their knowledge, piety and influence on global Islamic affairs.

Shaykh Dedew was born in 1963 into a family dedicated to knowledge. His teachers came initially from his extended family, which included many prominent scholars, especially his maternal grandfather Shaykh Muhammad ‘Ali Ould ‘Abd al-Wadud. In 2007, Shaykh Dedew founded the Islamic University known as Markaz Takwīn al-Ulamā (Ulema Training Center), a highly-selective institute boasting a world-renowned curriculum mastering 63 Islamic disciplines, lasting up to 17 years.

In 2010 he also participated in the setting up of the Islamic University Abdella Ben Yassine which proposes a complete academic course according to the international system LMD (Licence, Master, Doctorate).

We pray that Allah (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) grants patience and strength to the entire family. May Allah (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) have mercy on the Shaykh’s mother, forgive her and elevate her ranks in Jannah, Amīn. We also ask Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) to make this difficult time an expiation of sins and the raising of rank in the sight of our Lord.
