Condolences on the passing of Shaykh Zahir Mahmood’s mother

By News Editor 3 Shw 41 ◦︎ 26 May 20 5 Min Read

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Indeed, to Allāh we belong, and to Him we are returning.

The Islam21c team would like to extend their sincerest condolences to Shaykh Zahir Mahmood (and his family) whose mother has passed away to meet her Lord (subḥānahu wa taʿālā). May Allāh have mercy upon her.

This is surely a difficult time for the family and their loved ones. Losing a parent is to lose a teacher, a supporter, a friend and a person’s connection to the past.

Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) declares,

“Wherever you are, death will overtake you, even if you be in lofty towers.” [1]

“Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.” [2]

Death is a certainty of life, indeed life itself is a test; man shall die and be questioned. It is in this sense that Allāh informs humans by way of counsel and encouragement that it is only the believers who are successful, those who avoid the fire and secure admittance into paradise. When a believer dies it is a time of great tragedy and loss for the community, but those who submit to the will of Allāh pay heed to what has been revealed,

“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient; those who when afflicted with calamity, say: from Allāh do we come, and to Him we shall return.” [3]

Shaykh Zahir Mahmood is the founder and principal of As-Suffa Institute & Outreach, Shaykh Zahir was born and raised in the United Kingdom. Shaykh Zahir is an internationally renowned speaker and has travelled extensively, from Barbados to Malaysia, with the objective of reviving the hearts with Islamic knowledge.

His development of the Islamic History series, looking at the late and recent Muslim narrative in a revolutionary depth in the English language, illustrates the latest mark of his role as teacher, preacher and activist through his unique delivery style and candour. We have our trust that the Shaykh is also a part of the legacy that his mother left and will be on her scale on the day of resurrection.

Shaykh Zahir Mahmood said:

“To Allah we belong and to Allah we return.”

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart I write to inform you of the passing my beloved mother.”

“With the passing of my mother, I also lose a means to great reward and her duas. In this time when my emotions are still raw, I urge you all to value your mothers and fathers, for you do not know when they may leave this dunya to return to their Lord. Don’t let a day go by without expressing your love for them and taking benefit from their duas.”

“May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdows without any reckoning and allow us to take heed from the reality of death.”

“Please keep my mother and the family in your duas.”

We pray that Allah (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) grants patience and strength to all her family. May Allah (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) have mercy on her, forgive her and elevate her ranks in Jannah, Amīn. We also ask Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) to make this difficult time an expiation of sins and the raising of rank in the sight of our Lord.
