World commemorates 74th Nakba Day in solidarity with colonised Palestine

By News Editor 4 Hij 44 ◦︎ 22 Jun 23

“Nakba” means “catastrophe” in Arabic, and refers to the systematic ethnic cleansing of two-thirds of the Palestinian population by Zionist paramilitaries between 1947-1949, as well as the near-total destruction of Palestinian society at the time.

About 530 villages and cities were ethnically cleansed and destroyed by Zionist militias, who killed 15,000 Palestinians in a series of more than 70 massacres, bringing about 78% of historic Palestine under foreign occupation.

This year the world marks 74 years of al-Nakba, the dispossession of the Palestinians’ homeland of millenia by the last remaining European colony in the Middle East, “Israel”.

This year’s anniversary comes days after the assassination of Al Jazeera veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, sparking a wave of international condemnation.
