MBS meets pro-Israel groups amidst escalation of killings of unarmed Palestinians

A leaked copy of the Saudi Crown Prince’s itinerary shows him meeting several right wing pro-Israel groups whilst in the US. Mohammad Bin Salman, pictured above with Michael Bloomberg, also shook hands with leaders of several groups who have donated millions to illegal settlement building and the fight against the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) movement. These groups include AIPAC, Stand up for Israel, and the Jewish Federation for North America – who donated 6 million dollars to illegal Israeli settlements between 2012 and 2015. [[1]]

BDS is a non-violent movement which seeks to place economic pressure on Israel to provide equal rights to Palestinians and thereby end the existing system of apartheid. However, according to Ha’aretz, the Crown Prince met with other organisations, including B’nai B’rith and the American Jewish Committee who have long targeted BDS. [[2]]

The Crown Prince’s visit is set against the backdrop of recent Israeli violence against unarmed Palestinian demonstrators which has so far resulted in the deaths of 17 and injury to more than 1,400 civilians. On Friday, peaceful Palestinian demonstrators marched towards the Israeli border to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of “Land Day”. [[3]]

On March 30th 1976, Israeli forces shot dead six Palestinian citizens of Israel after they protested the Israeli government’s appropriation of thousands of donums of Palestinian land. [[4]] Since then, Land Day has become an important commemorative event in the Palestinian calendar, reminding current generations of the sacrifices of previous ones and encouraging future generations to continue the resistance. [[5]]

Adalah, a legal centre for Palestinian rights in Israel, condemned the Israeli army’s use of force, calling it a violation of international law:

“Live gunfire on unarmed civilians constitutes a brutal violation of the international legal obligation to distinguish between civilians and combatants.” [[6]]

As reported by Al-Jazeera among the victims of illegal Israeli army violence were Ahmed Odeh, 19, Jihad Freneh, 33, Mahmoud Saadi Rahmi, 33, Abdelfattah Abdelnabi, 22, Ibrahim Abu Shaar, 20, and Abdelqader al-Hawajiri, Sari Abu Odeh, Hamdan Abu Amsheh, Jihad Abu Jamous, Bader al-Sabbagh and Naji Abu Hjair, whose ages remain unknown. [[7]]

Several countries including Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar and Turkey condemned Israel’s disproportionate violence against unarmed peaceful protestors, with Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UN, Mansour Al-Otaibi criticising the security council for failing to take action against Israel:

“People in occupied Palestine are disappointed that the Security Council met, but did not take action yet to stop this massacre and to hold those responsible to account.”

MBS has been credited for major changes in Saudi Arabia, including the arrest and imprisonment of hundreds of the Kingdom’s scholars and male and female activists. Amongst some of the prominent scholars and academics arrested by the Saudi authorities include: Sheikh Muhammad Saleh al-Munajjid, Dr. Mohammad Musa al-Sharif and Sheikh Salman al-Awda. [[8]] [[9]According to NBC News, citing 14 current and former US senior intelligence officials, MBS had allegedly previously also placed his own mother under house arrest. [[10]]

About Dr Izzadeen Chowdhury

  1. stop your slander

This article is biased. Since when does “meeting” mean supporting? The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on since 1948 and no significant progress has been made by any Muslim leader to free the Palestinians so far. I strongly believe we should pursue a peace deal through “meeting” that works for both parties since the Saudis have the economic upper hand and their popularity in both the Islamic and Non-Islamic world is second to none.

Stop creating links that don’t exist to push your agenda and incite evil. Fear Allah as these are not the attributes or mannerisms of a Muslim.

There is no link between his meetings and BDS, which is a dying movement that most of the world has already shunned. Israel has only grown to become more powerful in recent years and there is no way to separate Israelis from Israel anymore.

Therefore, MBS’s two-state solution seems like the only way forward.

    • Is also creating Bikini beaches, opening dozens of cinemas, waging a war on Islamic activism and scholarship, the famine he created in Yemen and paying half a trillion of the Ummah’s wealth on weapons from the Trump administration also in pursuit of a resolution? Let us all fear Allah, in all circumstances, not in only what supports your irrelevant point.
