Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhī rājiʿūn. Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we are returning.
We share the deeply moving news of the passing of our brothers Yusuf Patel and Muhammad Jalal‘s beloved father. May Allah forgive the sins of the deceased, grant patience to his loved ones, and allow us all to return to Him in the state in which He is most pleased with us.
The late Mohamed Fakir Patel was the proud father of five, including Altaf Patel, Muhammad Jalal, Bashir Patel, and Yusuf Patel.
Yusuf is the founder of SREIslamic (launched in 2008) and has been the driving force behind hundreds of hugely successful seminars and classes on the topic of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE/ RHE/ RSHE) in British primary schools. Muhammad Jalal is an academic and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in politics and history.
Mohamed Fakir Patel will be dearly missed and we humbly ask that readers attend his funeral prayer and burial service if possible.
Funeral arrangements
The funeral prayer will take place immediately after Duhr prayer (at 1:15pm) at Masjid-e-Umar, followed thereafter by the burial service at the Waltham Forest Muslim Cemetery. We strongly encourage all to attend the prayer and burial service if possible.

Following their father’s return to our Lord, a brief message from the family stated as follows,
“By the will of Allah, our beloved Father, Mohamed Fakir Patel, Father of Altaf Patel, Muhammad Jalal, Bashir Patel, [and] Yusuf Patel, has sadly passed away and left this temporary abode and returned to Allah (subḥānahu wa ta’āla).
“Please remember our Father in your duās and ask that Allah (subḥānahu wa ta’āla) makes his journey an easy one and grants him the highest rank in Jannat al-Firdous. Amīn.”
The family added,
“Please do attend and gain the huge reward of partaking in the Janazah prayer and burial.
“The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
‘Whoever attends the funeral until the prayer has been offered will have one qirāt (of reward) and whoever attends until the deceased has been buried will have two qirāts.’
“It was said,
‘What are the two qirāts?’
“He (ﷺ) said,
‘Like two great mountains.'” [1]
